Pixel

Thursday, February 11, 2016 Posted by Sandeep Kumar Jha

The pixel (a word invented from "picture element") is the basic unit of  programmable color on a computer display or in a computer image.

The term "pixel" is actually short for "Picture Element."

The screen is divided up into a matrix of thousands or even millions of pixels.

Each pixel is a sample of an original image :

More samples typically provide more accurate representations of the original.

The intensity of each pixel is variable.
